Ashley McKinney, LPC-T

My name is Ashley McKinney. I am a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Kansas. My passions are Maternal Health & Wellness and Minority Mental Health. I have devoted over 5 years to the Mental Health Counseling field, working directly and indirectly with clients of different ages and backgrounds. I have helped to improve a variety of mental health issues, tailoring my approach to fit the unique and individual needs of each client.
My Education:
• Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, awarded to me by Wichita State University
• Bachelor’s in Behavioral Science and Community Health with a minor in Psychology, awarded to me by the University of Kansas (ROCK CHALK!!)
• Certified Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and Lactation Specialist since 2017
My approach to Counseling is a bit unconventional, putting outdated constructs and representations of Mental Health Counseling to shame. My practice is holistic in nature and rooted in the importance of peer support and healthy interpersonal relationships. I also consider myself to be what we in the helping business call a “Wounded Healer”. Short version: I “walk it like I talk it” because I’ve been there! And there is significant value to being experienced in experiences.
