Debra Gibson: Counselor
Hello. My name is Debra Gibson and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oklahoma since 2001. I recently obtained my Kansas licensure as an LCPC and am excited to join the Winfield staff at New Perspectives. My Masters degree is in Behavioral Science from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
I have worked extensively with families experiencing the devastating emotions that accompany pregnancy loss, stillbirth or child death of any other age. My years of experience also include working with bereaved individuals who have lost loved ones to accidents, illnesses and suicide. In recent years, my experiences have included working with blended families, foster and adoptive families, grandparents raising grandchildren and parents needing help with children experiencing disruptive behaviors such as impulsivity, anger and anxiety, as well as youth and adults who are struggling with difficult adjustments in their lives. Issues of abandonment, neglect, low self-esteem, anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, anger/impulse control, lack of coping, interpersonal relationship and parenting skills are a key focus in my practice.
My approach to counseling is multi-faceted. I believe that people are individual, and that what works with one person varies from what works for another. Therefore, an integrative approach of various therapies can be utilized to benefit and meet the needs of each unique person. Most of all, I believe that listening and caring for people in a non-judgmental way is the most important component to facilitating successful growth and healing.
